A rhythmically dense incantation for the safe return of travellers. Written with my adventurous 22 year old daughter Anneka in mind!

Lyrics

Nine Lives

Nine lives has a black cat
Bad luck wrapped in a knapsack
Pull a rabbit from a hat
The ladder’s crossed
The mirror cracked

May St. Christopher’s shoulders hold you
May your lucky streak never fold in two
May the winds in your sails prevail and
May the journey be scenic but take you home
May the journey fulfil you and help you grow

Nine lives
Use the first five
To stay alive
Until we meet again
Don’t waste
Six, seven and eight
I will wait
Till the end of time for nine

Knock on wood, it’ll bring you luck and
See a penny, pick it up and
Throw salt over your shoulder
Hang a horseshoe, a four leaf cover

May your lucky charm save you from harm
May the Siren’s song leave you immune
May the road that you travel run on
May the route be scenic, but take you home

Nine lives
Use the first five
To stay alive
Until we meet again
Don’t waste
Six, seven and eight
I will wait
Till the end of time for nine

A last kiss, on the lips
Afore you go
Think of me
As you wander
Take care of your weary soul and
Please don’t you ever squander your

Nine lives
Use the first five
To stay alive
Until we meet again
Don’t waste
Six, seven and eight
I will wait
Till the end of time for nine

I will wait for you, rain or shine
I will wait for you, all of my life
I will wait for you, use up my nine lives
I will wait for you, for the rest of my life time
