From the recording Family Portraits (Volume V)
A Chopin-inspired love song to my late Dad, who sadly passed away in 2012, but whom I think about almost every day. Nice to write for piano and strings for a change!
Lyrics
Still Waters
Still waters run deep
It would take a week
For a thrown stone to reach
The bottom of your keep
Bitter and sweet
Not with words
But deeds
So you speak
Not to me
But everyone you meet
Your childhood was strange
Mother deranged
Scratched, bit and hit you
And then came the war
Taken by force
Imprisoned
Four years in a camp
Bit of a scamp
Determined to live
Though many are gone
Life goes on
Still waters run….
On the surface
Not a ripple to be seen
But underneath
Still waters run deep
Glide on ice
On the outside, yet…
Deep inside (you find)
Still waters run deep
Still waters run deep
Your influence it
seeps
Into each corner and every
Nook and cranny
Bit of a freak
You sow, we reap
Easter eggs
That you left
For me to find you
Rescued at last
Put it in the past
No need to harp on
Goes back to school
Won’t suffer fools
Takes them all on
Oh irony!
Fifth columnists
Pay all of his fees
Though love bombs
Life goes on
Still, waters run…
On the surface
Not a ripple to be seen
But underneath
Still waters run deep
Glide on ice
On the outside, yet…
Deep inside (you find)
Still waters run deep
Maybe your humour is childish Cos you never had a childhood
I would be this silly too
If I’d been through what you’ve been through
On the surface
Not a ripple to be seen
But underneath
Still waters run deep
Glide on ice
On the outside, yet…
Deep inside (you find)
Still waters run deep
Oh, how I wish I could talk to you now!
How I wish we could talk!
Oh, how I wish I could talk to you now!
How I wish we could talk!
