From the recording Family Portraits (Volume V)
As it says on the tin, "Two Sides" is really about unpacking that old saying "there's two sides to every story", specifically in the context of divorce. When two people split up and they are warring, it can be very awkward for any children involved. This is kind of a cautionary tale for those dividing parents to be cognisant of the effect on their offspring.
Lyrics
Two Sides
Paint a picture of slick self-confidence
Lay it on thick
Who the victim is
Tell a tale to pull at the heartstrings
Especially where the story runs thin
Angry words
You curse
Stir the dirt
It’s just
Propaganda
Fuelled by hurt
Recruit your friends
To the cause of revenge
Indoctrinate them with your hatred
Two sides to every story
Shades of grey explain better than blame and
Why try to play judge and jury?
Fury never brings gain only pain
Only pain
Paint a picture of fulfilment
Don’t let on that you’ve ever been hurt
All the scar tissue
Around your heart is
Nothing
Just a graze and nothing worse
More than one kind of love and
Variations thereof
More than one way of showing that you care
There are many types of
People in your life
They are not competing
You can’t compare
Two sides to every story
Shades of grey explain better than blame and
Why try to play judge and jury?
Fury never brings gain only pain
Only pain
Who can you name in the blame game?
Who should you choose to win or lose?
Is it an act of disloyalty to say this fight is not me?
You two sort it out between yourselves
I’m not leaving either one on the shelf
And even if the pair of you are loathe
I love you two and I choose you both!
Two sides to every story
Shades of grey explain better than blame and
Why try to play judge and jury?
Fury never brings gain only pain
Only pain
Two sides to every story
Two sides to every story
Two sides to every story
Two sides
